Remodeling Your Manufactured Home

People living in manufactured homes are truly no different than people that are living in standard houses, in that occasionally they will want to make changes in their home. In order to remodel or make upgrades to a manufactured home there are a couple of things you will likely need to remember. Wall studs and floor joists usually are not the same size as in a conventional home and the exterior is probably made out of metal.
Moving walls or taking them out completely can be a challenge as manufactured homes typically have wood paneling as a substitute for drywall or plasterboard. Fundamentally, if you are taking out a wall, there could be signs left on the ceiling where the wall had been attached. If you do this you'll likely need to replace the complete piece of wood on the ceiling in contrast to making a simple repair if it was made of drywall.
While remodeling a manufactured home is very similar to remodeling a old fashioned home, make sure to understand just what exactly you're doing before you begin. Most kitchen cabinets are fastened to the walls of a manufactured home similar to in a regular home and bathroom and kitchen plumbing fixtures can be changed the same way. Of course, a major benefit to remodeling a manufactured home is the fact all utilities are located under the home.
